Things I wish I'd known going into High School.
In honor of school starting up again I thought I'd talk about high school. I know a lot of 14-15 year old girls that are getting ready to start high school and some of them have asked me questions about it so it had me thinking. If I could go back and tell my 15 year old self the things I know now about high school what would I say. Here's what I've come up with, now obviously not everyone will have the exact same experiences but that's okay because that's what makes you who you are!
It's okay to be you!!
First off I just want to say that I was SO scared to go to high school. I was so scared but I begged my mom to home school me! She wouldn't thought, so I went to school!
Dear 15 year old me,
Stop begging your mom to home school you! You'll love high school! You'll quickly learn that it's a different world than middle school but that's okay it's a good thing. You need to learn first off that it's okay to be yourself no matter what other people think about you. Don't let other people determine who you're going to be. You're Kayla Raines and you're loveable and a great friend. It's okay to have fun and be crazy and just be a kid. Enjoy high school don't rush growing up. Remember that God loves you for you and not what someone else wants you to be.

Don't worry about if you're popular!
Here's the thing about high school...your friends will change. No matter what your friends change. Now some are very lucky and they keep a few close friends all thru high school but for most that's not the case and your friends will change and you'll have a variety of friends from different grades, just no this going into high school and it will make the transition much easier. I'm lying to you I've been there and seen it happen, plus it happened to me so I know this to be true. You'll start off with unbeatable 4 friend group but that group is going to change as time goes on and some of you get boy friends and a few of you may just happen to go to the career center and that will change the dynamic of the friendship as well. Drama club will be the one thing that brings you all together. Cherish that time because it will be something you miss deeply. Oh and btw you'll lose your best friend from when you were little, I'm sorry to inform you of this but looking back the warning signs of it happening were always there. Don't dwell on it too long she wasn't worth it anyway. Don't worry about having a bunch of friends. A girl who is popular may have a lot of bodies around her all the time but a girl who has friends is never alone.
When you graduate you'll realize who your true friends are because they will still be there for you even after you graduate. You'll find that your true friends will be the ones who will make an effort to talk to you and make it important to be in your life. Hold on to those friends they're the ones you want in your life, there the friendships that will last and the ones that will be most important to you.

You'll have heartbreak.
Here's the bad news there will be heartbreak, sadly that's part of life. When you try to get a prom date it's not as easy as it is in the movies! There will be a boy and will have a crush on him but he's going to break your heart so don't waist your time an over him, he's not worth the tears! You'll have a million crushes and some will turn out to be more than a crush and some may even turn into relationships. Some may last forever but most will not, sadly that's how high school dating goes. So you need to know that up front that there will be heartbreak. When that happens it's ok to cry, or be angry or run and hide or confide in your friends. Though it's easy to get caught up in the poor me feeling, kick it to the curb as quickly as you can! You're better than that boy that broke your heart! He's not worth your time, God has someone better out there waiting for! Though it seems so big at the time one day you'll realize that he wasn't meant for you and one day when your older you'll realize how small that relationship was in comparison to when you find true love.
Enjoy it!
The best advice I ever got in high school was to enjoy it! Everyone will tell you to enjoy high school because before you know it, it's over! But don't fret you'll have so many amazing memories that it will make it all worth it! You'll have so much fun in high school it really is the best time of your life! You'll have experiences that will last you a lifetime and you'll have great memories with your friends. In the end it won't matter how popular you were or how fancy your prom dress was! All that matters is that you enjoyed it and that you created memories that will last forever!
Thank you!
